In band surgery, an adjustable gastric band is placed around the upper portion of the stomach, creating a small pouch that limits food intake, and allows patients to feel satisfied with a smaller portion of food. Additionally, a small port is affixed to the muscle wall of the abdomen that allows the bariatric band to be adjusted later to slow the release of food from the stomach pouch through the digestive system. Adjustment to the gastric band can be done in the office without the need to return to the operating room.

Our surgeons can perform a laparoscopic band surgery using minimally-invasive techniques to help patients recover quicker.

The gastric band surgery performed within Norman Regional Health System, which is accredited by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Bariatric centers with this accreditation follow a rigorous review process to prove their resources and standards of practice.
